Ingredients
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 can of premade cream cheese frosting
2½ cups Cocoa Puffs cereal, divided
¾ cup dark chocolate chips

Preparation
Preheat oven as per the cake mix instructions.
Prepare the cake mix and divide the batter into two 8-inch round cake pans.
Bake the cakes for 18-22 minutes, or per the mix instructions, until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool the cakes in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Arrange one cake layer on a tray or plate. Spread ¼ of the frosting over the top of the cake then pipe a thick frosting border around the edge.
Fill the inside of the border with 1 cup of cereal. Top with second cake then evenly spread another ¼ of the frosting over the top cake layer.
Melt chocolate chips in the microwave on 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Add remaining 1½ cups cereal and mix well until the cereal is completely coated in chocolate.
Immediately arrange chocolate-coated cereal over the cake. Arrange as desired.
Chill the cake for 10-15 minutes or until the chocolate topping has set.
