Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 375℉.

  2. Un-roll the dough sheet on a large piece of parchment paper. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough in half, creating two equal-sized squares.

  3. Evenly spread the pesto over one of the dough squares. Sprinkle with cheese and top with second dough square.

  4. Gently place a small, round cookie cutter or opening of a cup in the center of the dough.

  5. Carefully cut 16 strips of dough equally around the cookie cutter. Take two dough strips that are next to one another and turn inward towards each other one or two turns. Pinch the two ends together. Repeat with remaining dough strips, creating the star “arms”.

  6. Whisk the egg in a small bowl. Use a basting brush to brush a light layer of the egg wash over the star bread. Transfer the bread to a baking tray.

  7. Bake the star bread in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  8. Allow to cool on the baking tray for 3 minutes, then serve while warm. Enjoy!
