Copycat Cheez-Its (Cheese Crackers)

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces block sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon table salt

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

  • â…› teaspoon paprika

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, cubed

  • 2 tablespoons whole milk

  • Flaky salt, for sprinkling

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 325℉. Line two baking trays with parchment paper and set aside.

  2. In the bowl of a food processor, add cheddar cheese, flour, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Pulse on low speed a few times until well-combined.

  3. Add butter and milk. Pulse again until a crumbly dough forms.

  4. Pour the crumbles out onto a solid surface and knead with your hands until a smooth dough forms. Roll the dough out very thin, ⅛-inch or less. 

  5. Use a pizza wheel or a fluted pastry cutter to cut the dough into 1-inch squares. Transfer the dough squares to the prepared baking trays. Use a small wooden skewer (or chopstick) to poke a small hole in the center of each square. Sprinkle with flaky salt.

  6. Bake the crackers in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crackers are a deep golden brown. Allow the crackers to cool completely on the tray then store in an airtight container. Enjoy!
