Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400℉.

  2. Lightly grease a large skillet and warm on the stove over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  3. Add ground beef and ground pork. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Cook until browned. Drain excess grease.

  4. Place meat mixture in a medium mixing bowl, and add ½ jar of sauce. Mix well and set aside.

  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, ½ cup parmesan cheese, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp pepper pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and basil. Set aside.

  6. In a small mixing bowl, combine remaining parmesan and mozzarella. Set aside.

  7. Evenly spread ½ remaining tomato sauce on the bottom of a 13x9 baking dish.

  8. Add one layer of lasagna and cover with ⅓ ricotta cheese mixture. Spread ⅓ meat mixture on top of ricotta. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.

  9. Place a final layer of lasagna over the meat mixture. Evenly spread the remaining tomato sauce on top and sprinkle with mozzarella  mixture.

  10. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until sauce is bubbly and cheese is melted and browned. Set oven to broil for additional browning, if desired.

  11. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes then serve, or cover and freeze.
